Nature in the New Creation: New Testament Eschatology and the Environment
Is it fair to say that environmental degradation is the product of Christianity,? What are the ideological roots of the environmental crisis? Moo suggests that the attitude of an “either/or” when it comes to evangelism and environmental concern is a false dilemma. Moo supports his claim by indicating that the New Testament stands in continuity with the Old Testament in affirming the continuing importance of nature and the natural world in the plan of God. He goes into a detailed consideration of relevant biblical texts: Isaiah 24:1-13, Isaiah 66:22-24, Romans 8:19-22, Colossians 1:20, 2 Peter 3. Aspects considered include the new heaven and earth, human dominion, stewardship, and the image of God.
