This article is an exposition of Ecclesiastes 4:13-16. In this text, Solomon points to the vanity of putting trust in earthly rulers. Placing one's hope in them will result in vexation of spirit. Hope should only be placed in the true King - Jesus Christ. His kingship will give joy to the soul.
Ecclesiastes 4:1-12 - Without Comfort and Alone
Ecclesiastes 4:1-12 provides a description of man's trouble. As a result of the fall into sin, man has been isolated from God. Therefore, in this life both the oppressed and the oppressor have no comforter. Their misery is made worse by envy which dwells in the heart. However, God has intervened and has sent the Comforter to mankind.
