Justification – Justification in Church History
Chapter 1 familiarizes readers with the major trends and personalities in the development of the doctrine of justification by faith. Fesko surveys the history of the development of the doctrine. The section we present here covers the Patristic Era (AD 100–600) and the Middle Ages (600–1500). This era includes the Augustine-Pelagius Debate, Semi-Pelagianism, Augustinianism, Thomas Aquinas, Duns Scotus, and Gabriel Biel.
