The Descent of the Eschatological Temple in the Form of the Spirit at Pentecost Part 2: Corroborating Evidence
This article continues the argument that certain Old Testament and early Jewish references to a temple form the background for the Holy Spirit appearing as of fire and associated features in Acts 2. It examines a number of Old Testament citations in Acts 2 in order to determine whether or not they relate to a temple theme. The conclusion of the article is that the coming of the Spirit at Pentecost is a description of the descent to earth of the heavenly temple to establish God’s end-time church as a part of this temple. Texts alluded to include Psalm 17, Psalm 20, Psalm 68, Psalm 110, Psalm 118, Psalm 132:11, Isaiah 57:19. Beale reflects on Acts 2 as fulfillment of John the Baptist's prophecy in Luke 3:16 proclaiming that Jesus will baptize with the Holy Spirit.
