Job 19:25
Job 19:25
Read: Job 19:25–29
You probably know the story of Job well. God had allowed Satan to take everything away from Job. By doing this God was showing Satan that he would not allow Satan to take his people away from serving him. But Satan continued to try and make Job turn away from the Lord. He used Job’s three friends to try to convince Job to stop loving and serving the Lord.
In this chapter we read Job’s answer to these three friends. Even though Job knew that he was a sinner, he knew that it was not because of these sins that everything had been taken away from him. Instead Job confessed that he had a Redeemer. A redeemer was someone who made wrong things right. Jesus Christ has done that for us. He came to this earth to pay for our sins. Job wouldn’t have known as much as we do about Jesus Christ, but he knew enough to confess that he had a Redeemer. Job believed that this Redeemer would save him.
And Job confessed this to his friends. He told them that he was not going to give up on serving the Lord, because he trusted that the Lord would sort everything out. Job had a Redeemer, a Saviour. Job belonged to this Redeemer and so he knew that one day he would have everlasting life. He confessed that he would see God after he died.
What a beautiful confession. Again, Job wouldn’t have understood everything about the resurrection of the body, but he believed and confessed that when he died, he would go to be with the Lord, he would see the Lord.
And that is our confession too. We also have a Redeemer, a Saviour, the same Redeemer that Job had. And so, we too can confess that our Redeemer lives and that we have forgiveness of sins in him, and eternal life. We too know that because of God’s grace, we belong to him, and no matter what happens to us in this life, we will not be taken away from the Lord.
Reflection with your child:
Why did Job confess that he had a Redeemer?
